What To Expect

The Infusion Journey

Referral

A referral form is submitted by a specialist or family physician.

Bloodwork

Required laboratory testing may be completed as requested by the referring physician to confirm treatment safety and appropriateness.

Booking & Consult

A coordinator schedules the visit. A complimentary pharmacist consultation is available prior to the appointment to review medications and supplements and to address any questions.

Infusion Day

Treatment is administered by Registered Nurses in a comfortable clinic setting. A physician is always on call to ensure added safety.

Follow-Up

Progress is monitored, and coordination with the referring physician is provided to determine whether future infusions are required.

Our clinic has registered nurses, working under a medical director, to provide infusions. Our coordinators are familiar with the intricacies of each medication to ensure we can be accommodating clinical timelines.

We use state-of-the-art infusion pumps and advanced patient monitoring equipment. Physician services are available on call in the event of an urgent need, with emergency medications, an AED, and an oxygen supply readily on hand. We are located 5 minutes from Rockyview Hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an infusion take?

30 minutes for zoledronic acid, 1 hour for Monoferric®, and 2 hours for Venofer®. Biologic molecules for autoimmune conditions will have different infusion times depending on the dose and product ordered.

For all infusions, an additional 15 minutes is added to the infusion time to go over consent forms and to obtain intravenous access. A 30 minute post infusion monitoring period is recommended to ensure you feel well when leaving your appointment.

Yes, all treatments require a referral from a prescriber.

  • Wear comfortable clothes, make sure to have a short sleeve shirt for easy IV access
  • A list of current medications
  • Come hydrated! We encourage patients drink 6-8 cups of water starting 3 days prior to your appointment to ensure your kidneys are functioning well and your veins are easy to access
  • Bring headphones. We understand you may want to browse on your phone but please be mindful of other patients in the room as well.
  • Iron Infusions: Required Labs: CBC, Ferritin, Iron Panel (Serum Iron, TIBC, TSAT) within the last month 
  • Zoledronic Acid: Required Labs: eGFR, Vitamin D, Calcium within the last month for first infusions. eGFR within the last month and calcium within the last year for repeat infusions.
